Verum Analytica: Who We Are

Verum Analytica is led by Keith Smith, a legal technologist and AI Expert who has spent more than 15 years inside law firms, first at the case level, and now at the systems level.

Keith began his career as a paralegal, working hands-on in criminal (state and federal), civil, and family law. That experience shaped how he thinks about technology: any tool worth building has to respect the realities of clients, staff, courts, and deadlines - not just look impressive in a demo.

In 2018, Keith took over management of his firm’s technology and saw firsthand how much time and revenue were trapped in manual processes. While leading IT, he went back to school, earning a B.S. in Mathematics and an M.S. focused on Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Optimization. He is now pursuing a Ph.D. in Computer Science, specializing in AI.

Along the way, he has designed and deployed automations and AI tailored to law firms, including:

-
Calendar and court-date generators that pull from case data instead of sticky notes and memory
-
Custom chatbots that help staff and attorneys quickly surface answers from internal documents
-
ETL pipelines that move data cleanly between case management, billing, and reporting systems
-
Analytics and reporting in Power BI, Shiny, and Tableau that give partners real-time visibility into matters, revenue, and risk
-
Document and letter-generation workflows that turn structured inputs into polished drafts in minutes, not hours
-

These systems have helped firms reduce time spent on routine document generation and calendaring, improve follow-through on tasks and deadlines, and give leadership clearer metrics for staffing, profitability, and case progress. Keith’s work is measured not in abstract models, but in hours saved, bottlenecks removed, and better decisions made with cleaner data.

At Verum Analytica, Keith brings together deep legal experience and advanced AI expertise to help law firms adopt AI in a way that is practical, ethical, and firmly grounded in real-world legal work.
